Minimum wage, answered
What is the Minimum Allowable Wage for helpers in Hong Kong?
HK$5,100 a month for contracts signed on or after 30 September 2025, plus a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 if food is not provided free. The Government reviews it every September.
Does my employer have to pay a food allowance?
Only if they do not give you food. If they give you food free of charge, no allowance is required. If they pay an allowance instead, it must be at least HK$1,236 a month.
What was the minimum for older contracts?
The rate that applied when your contract was signed stays for the whole contract. The table on this page lists each rate by the date it started; the calculator picks the right one from your contract date.
Is this calculator legal advice?
No. It is an estimate based on the published rates. Always confirm with the Labour Department on 2717 1771, or a helper support organisation.
Does Kaia see what I type?
No. The calculation happens on your phone. Nothing is sent to Kaia or anyone else unless you tap Share — and the card you share never shows your salary.
